PIPES and Patrick Kevil

The Outta Space, 6840 32nd St., Berwyn

Cheryl Lynn Tomblin, creator of PIPES, was born in Ronceverte, WV but grew up in Maywood, IL. She began playing violin at 10 years and belonged to the Merit School of Music for four years until graduating and attending Carnegie Mellon University where she continued to develop her musical craft. At the age of 17 she picked up the guitar which propelled her into the arena that is musicianship, her first large audience being a crowd of almost 1500 first year college students.

PIPES recently released her first EP titled "Allow Me the Pleasure" and response and reviews of the album have been positively overwhelming for the singer/songwriter. The three song EP - employs a minimalistic craft that is both haunting and hypnotic, relying solely on the two instruments - guitar and vocal - to beguile the listeners fancies. Track 1, "Train" has already been aired on Loyola University's WLUW Razor and Die show and has caught the attention of the shows audience. The first run of the CD sleeves for the album were handmade by the songwriter and can be ordered for purchase at Kagan & Gaines Music Co., Inc (7655 W. Roosevelt Rd, Forest Park, IL; www.kaganandgaines.com).

PIPES' music and lyrics have been described as being dark and melancholy, holding the audience captivated by cyclic guitar riffs, poignant and unlikely instrumentation, and smoky vocal undertones.
